As the Volunteers Director for Libraries of Love I get to spend time working with lots of enthusiastic volunteers at the Laurel Mountain Elementary School library where Trudy is the head librarian. My wife Tracy and I started volunteering when my daughter was in 2nd grade and she is now in 7th grade in middle school. This year will be my 4th trip to Uganda.

For the past 5 years, I have coordinated book drives with my church through the children's missions program and helped with bake sales to raise money to pay for lunches for some of the students in the schools where LOL has libraries.

I have had 2 children at Laurel Mountain Elementary where I have learned about LOL and been inspired by Trudy's endeavor. This trip has been on my "wanting to do" list for many years so this will be my first year. I am not sure what all to expect, except I know it will be an incredible experience.

I learned about Libraries of Love through book drives at my church. As a family we have been participating in the book drives for the LOL and have been fortunate to give books to this organization for many years. In collecting and boxing books, in order to ship them off for a long journey, my passion has been to end up in the same place that they were being sent.

For the last several years I have been in discernment about taking the trip to Uganda and finding time to part from my family to volunteer for this mission. The year 2011 brings me an exciting time to help young children develop a love for reading and better themselves as individuals.
